Why milk?

Here is a list of high-calcium foods. You need four servings a day of the following:

One serving is 1 cup of:
  • Nonfat or low fat milk
  • Nonfat or low fat chocolate milk
  • Nonfat or low fat yogurt
  • Whole milk
  • Milkshake
  • Pudding or custard
  • Calcium-fortified orange juice

One serving is also 1½ ounces of:
  • Cheddar, Monterey Jack or other hard cheese
  • String cheese or mozzarella cheese
  • Parmesan cheese
  • Soft cheese
  • Cream cheese
One serving is also 1½ cups of:
  • Cottage cheese
  • Frozen yogurt
  • Ice cream
  • Cheese sauce


Tips to get your calcium the easy way
  • Drink milk at meals instead of juice or soda
  • Try a breakfast blender smoothie of frozen or fresh fruit, yogurt and milk.
  • Add melted cheese or cream cheese to your bagel or toast
  • Pack string cheese for lunch
  • Add cheese to your hamburger
  • Drink a milkshake instead of a soda
